High Center of Gravity Vehicle Operations Course

Course Hours: 16.0 Hours

Course Description

This course was developed in response to the growing number of agencies utilizing sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and/or pickup trucks. These vehicles are more prevalent and are being used in all aspects of law enforcement driving. SUVs and/or pickup trucks will be implemented in emergency response driving scenarios. With that in mind, this course emphasizes safe emergency driving techniques, use of due regard, and understanding the unique characteristics of SUVs and/or pickup trucks. The course will require the officer to build skills and show proficiency in regard to emergency response in an urban setting.

Prerequisites

Officers must be current/active law enforcement or public safety personnel (Fire/EMS), have successfully completed the basic Emergency Vehicles Operation Course, and must possess a valid driver's license.  Officers attending are responsible for providing the appropriate emergency vehicle for the class.

Who Should Attend

Certified law enforcement officers or public safety personnel (Fire/EMS) assigned to a position that entails driving an emergency vehicle, specifically a sport utility vehicle and/or pickup truck.

Special Notes

Officers are required to provide a sport utility vehicle designed for emergency response for this course.
