Police Motorcycle Officer Techniques

Course Description

This course is designed to provide motorcycle officers with formal instruction in the safe operation of motorcycles at various speeds. Emphasis is placed on building officer confidence in close quarter driving situations, balance, throttle control, turning, acceleration, braking, and efficiency in operation.

Prerequisites

Participants must possess a valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement, experience with motorcycle operation, and understanding of their motorcycle's nomenclature.


Each student must provide a police motorcycle to operate during the course.  Due to each student participating in various exercises throughout the course, the sharing of motorcycles is not permitted.  Each student must provide a helmet, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots to use during all operations and exercises.

Who Should Attend

This course is intended for law enforcement officers who are currently assigned to, or anticipate assignment to, a police motor unit.

Special Notes

Each student attending the training is responsible for providing a police motorcycle to operate for the duration of the course.  Police motorcycles will not be provided by the Training Center for students to operate.  


Students and their agency will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the motorcycles they will be operating, and any repairs needed, or damages incurred, during the training.
